In Loving Memory of Rosemary Slaughter-Pate

My dear aunt, Rosemary Slaughter-Pate, a 28-year Lockheed Martin employee, mentor, sister, daughter, and friend, was brutally murdered by her 19 year old son after being abused by him for years.  She would constantly seek help - but there was nothing there.  He was her child, and her problem.

One of the things she did to escape was to cycle, including cycling with The American Diabetes Tour de Cure to raise money to find a cure for diabetes.  My mother Alice, her sister and very best friend, began to cycle after her death. To bring awareness to Minor-Child-to-Parent Violence, we organized a 300 mile, four day bike ride from Orlando to Tallahassee, FL with team “Ride4Rose.

Our efforts led to the first ever Support for Parental Victims of Child Domestic Violence legislation in the country, which identifies this type of violence as domestic violence, making it eligible for state funding and programming.  This has potential to help thousands of families affected by this violence.

Her impact and legacy live on.
